Host 330 Quad Slide 4X4

A Story by Chris Hemer | October 24th, 2007

Finally, the Room and Comforts of Home With the Capability of Four Wheel Drive Part of the reason RVers purchase motorhomes is to discover life off the beaten path - to experience things you just can’t see from the window of a plane or from the shoulder of an interstate. In a full-size motorhome, however, there’s only so much you dare explore; muddy roads, sand or snowy/icy conditions can quickly turn your travels into an unexpected stay, as you wait for the tow truck to arrive. If you’ve always wanted the room of a Class A with the capability of a compact four-wheel-drive Class B or C, your wait is over. The Host Motorcoach is here. Though Host Industries is a relatively new company as RV manufacturers go, its roots run deep; owners Dave Hogue and Mark Storch are the sons of Jim Hogue and Frank Storch, the founders of Beaver Motorcoach. As such, Dave and Mark grew up around motorhomes, and new exactly what they wanted to do when they penned out their first motorhome product. “Dave and Mark are campers themselves,” explained Greg Tucknies, Host’s national sales manager. “They like to bring boats and toys with them, so they wanted something with a lot of towing capacity, and something that was easy to drive. The next logical step was to make it a 4x4, because there is nothing else like it on the market.” To achieve their goals, the Host team started with a Crew Cab Ford F-550 chassis. The first model was the smaller 270, followed by the larger quad slide 330, pictured here. “The 270 is targeted at the sportsmen, or a small family,” Tucknies commented. “The next thing we decided we needed was a larger coach with a full-size, walk around queen bed. A few weeks later, Mark had designed the 330 quad slide.” Capable of towing up to 17,000 lbs., the 35-foot 330 features a street side sofa slideout with separate, removable pedestal table, and a curb side slideout with L-shaped kitchen. The bath area, with neo-angle fiberglass shower, lav and separate water closet with porcelain toilet are located amidships, and the full-size queen is housed in a street side slidout. A smaller, opposing slide is home to the wardrobe. Notable standard features include a 20-inch LCD television, Yamaha DVD/CD player, solid surface countertops and an eight cubic-foot Dometic refrigerator. Clearly, the Host 330 is a unique coach, and so are some of its options—the most striking of which is a 3,000 lb. capacity, 96 x 96-inch, cable-suspended patio that deploys from the rear of the coach, complimented by a residential-style rear sliding glass patio door. Other examples include a brush-guard style front bumper with driving lights, 12,500 lb. winch, auto leveling system, GPS navigation and much more. “The 330 is a go anywhere, do anything RV,” says Tucknies. If you really, really like out of the way places, stay tuned: A toy hauler version of the 330 should be available by the time you read this.
